Past Seasons

Empty nesters Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan where Greg finds Sylvia, a golden lab/poodle mix, in the park and brings her home. Greg is smitten by Sylvia's unconditional love and the romantic triangle that results begins to eat a serious (and riotous) hole in Greg and Kate's 22 year marriage. This endearing romantic comedy about a marriage and a winsome canine is a tasty (dog) treat not to be missed.

Michael Salley (Tom, Leslie, etc.) has been doing theatre in and around the Bay Area for the last six years. Sylvia is his third show at Bus Barn Stage Company. This season he has appeared in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Masquer’s Playhouse) and Alice in Wonderland (AtmosTheatre). He recently directed Arsenic and Old Lace at Chanticleers Theatre, and was an understudy for the Cal Shakes production of Much Ado About Nothing. Other recent appearances include Don’t Dress for Dinner (Douglas Morrison Theatre), Scrooge! (Town Hall Theatre), and the musical revue New Wrinkles at CCT in San Leandro. He performed in the West Coast premiere of Breaking Up is Hard to Do at Bus Barn, and in The Little Foxes at Hillbarn Theatre. He co-wrote and produced the original musical Type Talking: the Musical, based on the work of Myers-Briggs, which had its world premiere at Chanticleers Theatre. He is an artistic company member of AtmosTheatre and Active Arts for Young Audiences.

Chris Enni (Sound Design) has enjoyed working on sound design for the Bus Barn Stage.  In pursuing his writing career, Chris has had two of his plays produced at the Foothill College New Works Festival - THE MAN WHO MARRIED A DUMB WIFE and THE PUPPET FACTORY.  Before writing plays, Chris enjoyed writing songs featured on television, radio, and video.  And before that, he toured nationally with his band The Cardiff Reefers, which came to an abrupt end when he and his wife decided to have children.  And before that, he doesn't remember much - because of the children.  Chris also plays jazz, popular and classical piano as well as electric guitar in his current band, Bad Daddy (we really aren't that bad).  Thank you for coming to see another great show brought to you by your great local talent at the Bus Barn.

Marcia Frederick (Director) was Bus Barn Stage Company's first artistic director, when the company formed in 1995. For Bus Barn she has directed THE RIVALS, HAMLET, WINTER'S TALE, and INSPECTING CAROL among many others. For City Lights she directed NOISES OFF and SYLVIA and for San Jose Stage Company THE MIDDLE AGES, also by A. R. Gurney. She has for many years been an instructor at Foothill College where she has directed productions including OUR TOWN, SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS, WINTER'S TALE, MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT, MY SISTER EILEEN and PENNY FOR A SONG. Marcia was a founding member of San Jose Repertory Company where she was awarded Associate Artist status and designed AMADEUS and A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, both of which won the Los Angeles Times Drama Critic's Award for best costuming. She has received a Commendation for Contribution to the Arts from the City of San Jose and the award of INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR from the Community Colleges National League for Innovation.

Ron Gasparinetti (Set Designer) was born and raised in Newark, NJ. He attended Essex Catholic High School and Montclair State University where he earned his BFA degree in technical theatre with a scenic design concentration. Ron worked the night shift for the Newark, NJ police department while attending college. He graduated in 1986. Ron has worked steadily since then as a technical director, scenic designer, lighting designer, props designer and production manager-sometimes all at once! He even forayed into the field of acting for a short time. Ron has been involved with over 400 productions in the last 30 years. He currently resides in California on the San Francisco Peninsula. In February of 2007, Ron joined forces with Charles McKeithan to form a new company: THRUST Scenic Design & Construction. To date, the company has built a clientele of 12 theatre companies in the Bay Area and has designed and built over 75 productions.

Emily Greene (Costume Designer) lives in Oakland and travels all over the Bay Area as a freelance set and costume designer. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Emily received a Masters of Fine Arts in Set and Costume Design from Ohio University. This is the third Bus Barn production Emily has designed costumes for, having previously designed The Importance of Being Ernest and Season's Greetings. In the two years she has lived here, Emily has designed over 20 Bay Area productions working with many theatres including The California Shakespeare Theatre, The Palo Alto Children's Theatre, Cutting Ball, and Crowded Fire. She will also be designing costumes for Bus Barn's production of Little Shop of Horrors later this season.

Mary Hill (Stage Manager) is a second year student at the Foothill Theatre Conservatory. Previous ASM/SM work include Alice and Wonderland, The Crucible, and The Winter's Tale, all at Foothill College. She is glad to be working with Marcia on another show. Mary will be graduating Foothill this year with an AA in Theatre Arts and plans to pursue a BA or BFA in Theatre. She thanks Marcia for this opportunity, and her family and friends for their unconditional support.

Charles McKeithan (Master Carpenter) has been a handyman by day and an actor by night in the local Bay Area for the past ten years. Last year he joined forces with Ron Gasparinetti to form THRUST Scenic Design and Construction. He now has the pleasure of earning a living working in theater full time to help bring Ron's creative visions to life. For more on Charles visit www.charlesmck.com.

Ruth E. Stein (Properties Designer) Ruth E. made her Bus Barn debut as Boo Levy in The Last Night of Ballyhoo. This award-winning actor/singer has worked extensively in the Bay Area for the past 35 years both onstage and off, in radio voiceovers, as a back-up recording vocalist, and in several industrial films. Following her passion of antiques, theatre and the “thrill-of-the-hunt,” she started “propEARLYdone,” providing the props design for Breaking Up is Hard to DO, SEASON'S GREETINGS and PRIVATE LIVES.

Selina G. Young (Lighting Designer) is happy to debut as lighting designer for Bus Barn Stage Company. She has designed the lighting for many Bay Area theatre companies including: San Jose Repertory Theatre, TheatreWorks, San Jose Stage Company, Marin Theatre Company and Alter Theater Ensemble, where she is an Associate Artist. Some of her favorite shows include: Alter Boys, Almost...Patsy Cline (SJSC); X, The Life and Times of Malcolm X (Oakland Opera Theatre); The Spitfire Grill (the musical) (Palo Alto Players) and American Whupass (AlterTheater Ensemble). After working in the entertainment industry in a multitude of positions on and off stage, Ms. Young has had the privilege to work with luminaries such as Eric Bogosian, Whoopi Goldberg and Patrick Stewart. She is a member of Actor's Equity Association, IATSE Local 134 (stagehands), Theatre Bay Area, and Theatre Communications Group.
