Past Seasons

Set in a "metaphysical Connecticut", a married couple who are both doctors have hired a housekeeper named Matilde, an aspiring comedian from Brazil who's more interested in coming up with the perfect joke than in house-cleaning. This theatrical and wildly funny play is a whimsical and poignant look at class, comedy and the true nature of love. This extraordinary new play by an exciting new voice in the American drama was runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize.

Contains adult themes and language.

Leslie Breton (Matilde) Leslie is extremely excited to be making her acting debut at Bus Barn Stage Company after a long hiatus. She started off her career in theatre as a performer and swiftly gave into her OCD tendencies to work as a stage manager in the Bay Area. Her previous acting credits include THE ADDING MACHINE at Foothill College; a New Works Festival at San Jose State University; THE WAITING ROOM, THE 1940'S RADIO HOUR, and THE BALTIMORE WALTZ at Cal State University, Monterey Bay; and LA VIRGIN DE TEPAYAC, LA PASTORELA, and CENCI with El Teatro Campesino, to name a few. She has had the privilege of stage managing for Bus Barn Stage Company, City Lights Theater Company, Pear Avenue Theater, The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, and Civic Arts Stage Company in a slew of fantastic productions. Leslie would like to thank her theatre family, actual family, and dear friends for their loving support on this amazing journey. Another special thanks goes out to the cast, crew, and production team of THE CLEAN HOUSE. Without your artistic generosity this version of Matilde wouldn't have been possible. Muito obridgada.

Monica Cappuccini (Ana) Monica has worked with numerous Bay Area companies, including: Hillbarn Theatre (MASTER CLASS), Impact Theatre (THE PLAY ABOUT THE NAKED GUY), Palo Alto Players (DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE), CustomMade Theatre (THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK), Pear Avenue Theatre (THREE TALL WOMEN), Dragon Productions (A DELICATE BALANCE), City Lights (EQUUS), Cal Shakes (Understudy, ROMEO AND JULIET), and TheatreWorks (New Works Festival). She has studied at Seydways Acting Studio, Studio ACT and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She is delighted to be working for the first time at Bus Barn Stage Company.

Carolyn Ford Compton (Virginia) is enjoying her second appearance at Bus Barn, the first being Sister Clarissa in OVER THE TAVERN. Carolyn has performed at various theatres on the Peninsula and South Bay, and has portrayed characters in several productions, including MACBETH, CHARLEY'S AUNT, THE SHAKER CHAIR, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, and ROMEO AND JULIET among others. She sends gratitude to Bus Barn, Jeanie Smith, and the outstanding cast and crew of this production for their dedication and hard work. And of course, love to Darlin' Darryl, even though he has said many times that this role of Virginia is definitely not "type casting".

Steve Lambert (Charles) THE CLEAN HOUSE marks Steve's return to Bus Barn, having previously appeared in THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (Baptista), HAMLET (Polonius) and A WINTER'S TALE (Camilo). Other acting credits include EQUUS (Dr. Dysart), CYRANO (Raganeau), NOISES OFF (Lloyd), THE GOAT, OR WHO IS SYLVIA? (Martin), PROOF (Robert), and SYLVIA (Greg) at City Lights Theatre Company and MY FAIR LADY (Henry Higgins), THE SOUND OF MUSIC (Captain Von Trapp), and CAMELOT (King Arthur). His directing credits include THE FANTASTICKS, THE KING AND I and KISS ME KATE. Steve graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in Theatre Arts and has studied and worked in New York where he appeared in several feature films and daytime "soaps".

Sondra Putnam (Lane) Sondra is delighted to make her seventh appearance on the Bus Barn stage. Previous shows include SYLVIA (Kate), BREAKING THE CODE (Mrs. Turing), several one-acts in the summer of 2006, PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE (Germaine), WIT (Dr. Vivian Bearing), and ARMS AND THE MAN (Catherine). Most recently she portrayed Frankie in FRANKIE AND JOHNNIE AT THE CLAIR DE LUNE for Diablo Actors Ensemble in Walnut Creek. Other credits include Ellen in THE ART OF DINING (Dragon Productions), Lizzie in OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD (Palo Alto Players), Ayn Rand in THE DEATH OF ANY RAND (Virago Theatre Company), Mommie in THE AMERICAN DREAM (Boxcar Theatre), and Glorie in GRACE & GLORIE (Ross Valley Players). During the day she does Effective Communication training with Cisco Systems, Kaiser Permanente, and Samuel Merritt University. She also has commercial, television and movie credits.

Barbara J. Cannon (Artistic Director, Costume Designer) has worked professionally as a director since 1991, when she directed her first show with Hillbarn Theatre in Foster City. Since that time, she has directed over 50 productions and served as Associate Director at Hillbarn Theater from 1991-1993, as Associate Artistic Director at Palo Alto Players from 1993-1998, and currently is Artistic Director at Bus Barn Stage Company. Having worked on fifteen productions beginning with THE COMPLETE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE, ABRIDGED in 2008 up to this current production of THE CLEAN HOUSE, Chris thinks he can solidly state that he has gotten his feet wet, in fact, quite soaked to the socks. Some favorites have been LEADING LADIES, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE and SYLVIA. Chris graduated from UCSD in 1990 with a degree in music, studying Prokofiev by day and playing reggae by night. His life is a bit different now as he continues to write, produce, and record during the day and by night, transform into a theater rat.

Ron Gasparinetti (Set Designer) originally hails from New Jersey but has been designing and building scenery in the Bay Area since 1996. Palo Alto Players, Dragon Theatre Company, Pear Avenue Theatre, City Lights Theatre Company, Bus Barn Stage Company, Stage One, 42nd St. Moon, Hillbarn Theatre Company, and Shady Shakespeare Theatre Company and most recently The Jewel Theatre Company are a few of the theatre companies where you may have seen his work. Jeanie K. Smith (Director) is delighted to return to the Bus Barn, having last directed Bus Stop in 2009. Her directing credits elsewhere include world premieres-- Vehicle, A Beautiful Home for the Incurable, and Veracruz-- as well as the classics Mrs. Warren's Profession, The Seagull, Night of the Iguana, A Doll's House, Three Sisters, Long Day's Journey Into Night, Eccentricities of a Nightingale, Metamorphoses, Hay Fever, and Angels in America: Part One at the Pear Avenue Theatre; Noises Off, The Perfect Wedding, and A Light in the Piazza at Palo Alto Players; and A Streetcar Named Desire at the Dragon. Her performing background includes puppetry (Lunatique Fantastique), improvisation (The Second City), mime (Seattle Mime Theatre) and film ("Dumbarton Bridge", "Trouble in Mind").

Dianne Vega (Stage Manager) has been working as a stage manager and production manager for over twenty years working with various South Bay companies. She is pleased to stage manage for the first time with Bus Barn Stage Company. Dianne recently stage managed THE MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN with The Pear Avenue Theatre, 9 CIRCLES with Renegade Theatre Experiment and A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and TONGUE OF A BIRD with Dragon Productions. Other stage management credits include SHAKIN' THE MESS OUTTA MISERY, and FENCES with Tabia, numerous productions with City Lights Theatre Co., as well as other companies in the South Bay such as Palo Alto Players and TheatreWorks.
